Community Wardens and Civil Enforcement Officers have each been trained in one another’s jobs to facilitate merging the two roles with effect from 22 April.

Crawley Borough Council announced that the plan will save £50,000 by merging two job roles as it will allow three different positions, which are currently vacant, to be cut. Community wardens’ main priorities are litter and anti-social behavior.

Civil enforcement parking officers are responsible for enforcing of parking regulations around Crawley. The merge will have an additional benefit of resulting in there being more people per shift available seven days a week 7am to 10.30pm.

The parking enforcement officers currently work from 8am to 6pm, six days a week.

cabinet member for environment, Cllr Ken Trussell (Conservative MP for Maidenbower), said: “This is an excellent move that not only brings in a saving this year but more importantly improves the service. By taking a good look at the way the service ran we were able to make some really positive changes which also benefit our staff by giving them more skills during a difficult economic climate.”
