We are seeking a confident and enthusiastic individual to fulfil this diverse, hybrid role. You will spend part of your week leading a specialist mobile library service for preschools, families and under-fives in the Crawley area, and the rest of your week will be spent coordinating a brand new library-based service supporting the communication needs of children with special educational needs and disabilities.

The mobile library part of the role will require you to share stories and rhymes with groups of under-fives, provide advice to preschool staff and families on the best books to use with children and also promote the wider Library Service to everyone they meet. This role will also provide day-to-day supervision for the separate Bookbus Driver/Assistant.

The new communication support service will involve establishing a collection of equipment and resources at Crawley Library and making this available for loan to customers via all libraries. You will be required to organise the new collection, devise processes for handling requests from customers and oversee the operation of this with library staff. There will also be opportunities to be involved in promoting the new service to library staff and at events for families across West Sussex. Flexibility for occasional weekend or evening work (e.g. to attend parents’ evenings or school open days) would be an advantage.

You will have experience working with children and families, ideally in a library setting and be confident in promoting services to adults such as teachers, parents or carers. Experience of working with children with disabilities would also be an advantage.

This is an active role and some lifting will be required.

Mondays – 9.00am-5.00pm
Tuesdays – 9.00am-5.00pm
Plus an additional 7 hours per week to be worked flexibly to meet the requirements for supervision of the new collection, staff training and outreach promotion.
