Our service in Crawley is a six bedded, mixed gender unit which provides high quality day care and overnight short breaks for children and young people with learning disabilities.

As well as providing a break for the young person and their family, we aim to provide a positive, stimulating and fun environment where children and young people have the opportunities to try new experiences and activities. Part of our work is also to support these children and young people to improve their communication skills and manage their challenging behaviour.

Our location in a suburb of Crawley means we maintain a presence in the local community as well as having easy access to public transport and local shop and leisure facilities.

Principal Child Care Officer (37 hours per week)

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Principal Child Care Officer to support children and young people receiving short breaks at High Trees, as well as supervising staff and the day to day running of the unit. You will take the lead in supporting Young People throughout their daily routines (including personal care), going on activities (walks, swimming etc.), implementing behavioural programs, taking on a key working role for certain Young People and sometimes managing challenging behaviour. You will supervise staff both day to day on shift, and on a one to one basis as their line manager. You will support the Manager/Assistant Manager in the day to day running of the unit. You will need experience of working with children and experience in a senior role. Experience of working with children with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour would be an advantage.

Salary £23,698 to £26,293 per annum
