About the Role

East Sussex County Council has recently awarded a new Highways Infrastructure Services Contract to maintain and improve our highway network. We have created a new client contract management team to manage the contract, working collaboratively with our contractor partner to deliver a truly excellent highway service for the people of East Sussex. We are looking for people to come and join us who positively enjoy challenge, the opportunity to create something new and who can deliver the highest performance from themselves and others.

A key function of the new client team will be contract performance and compliance and the Principal Compliance Officer will support the Compliance Manager in delivering modern, innovative and high quality independent and objective compliance activities across the Highways contract. You will assist with the preparation of the compliance regime and other compliance activities, including conducting risk assessments, consultation with senior managers and co-ordinating data and information collection. You will provide advice, support and challenge to the organisation on risk, governance and internal control matters.

You will use a risk based systematic approach for reviewing, appraising and reporting upon contract systems, controls and procedures, so excellent written communication and analytical skills are essential. A sound knowledge of the professional standards applicable to Compliance and Audit in Local Government and knowledge of a range of internal audit methodologies and techniques are also essential. Additional Information

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
